Barbara Cook has postponed her return to the New York stage. Her one-woman retrospective, Barbara Cook: Then and Now, was set to play off-Broadway’s New World Stages beginning April 13. The decision was made so that Cook could have more time to prepare after working on her book. No word yet on when the production is now set to premiere.
“Going directly into rehearsal to create this new production was causing undue pressure and stress,” said producer Roy Furman in a statement. “We all agreed it was best to postpone the production.”
The show was conceived by James Lapine and was to be directed by Tommy Tune. It weaved personal stories with signature numbers from Cook’s Broadway past, including The Music Man, Candide, She Loves Me and Carousel.
